HI all!
Just a note to let you know that as I was driving around town the other day I noticed a 1983 or 1984 240D for sale for $3500. The color is white with saddle MBTex. Very straight looking car both inside and out. It seems like it has about 175,000 miles on it from looking inside. If anyone wants to know more, let me know and I can get you more info and the phone # of the owner. The car is in Rapid City, SD.

all potential buyers should walk away if the owner doesn't have full service records (evidencing scrupulous adherence to the prescribed maintenance schedule) for that kind of $

I called the guy and there aren't any records. He has owned it since 1995 and changed the oil regularly, but didn't do any repairs (he said it didn't need any?) or other maintanence. So you take your chances. He is the 3rd owner. The original owner had it from new to 1995, the 2nd owner had it one month, and this guy has had it since. CA and AZ car all its life until he move to Rapid City a couple of years ago.

you'd be crazy to buy that car for that $

as everyone in this forum knows, these cars were meticulously engineered and constructed. They were also designed to be serviced on a specific schedule, which MUST be adhered to.

Minor maintenance is scheduled for every 15,000 miles and major service is scheduled for every 30,000 miles. If this guy has owned the car for nine years and never done anything but change the oil, he clearly did NOT follow the prescribed regimen. The fact that service records weren't available when he bought it implies that the previous owner also didn't follow the schedule.

I've been burned by a couple of these cars (bought without service records). Don't follow in my footsteps!

Grey Ghost:
Thanks for your input. That's what this forum is for. Good advise for anyone. I don't want the car, but in case anyone else is, they know that even if they gor the car for free, over several years, they'ld have plenty of money in it. Plus a huge amount of time and effort.
