A member of our section bought an early 90's SL, which is black in color. It had whitish streaks on the hood and other horizontal surfaces which, he had been told, would require repainting. He knew this when he bought the car. Instead, he used a product called "liquid glass" on it, which achieved a 95% cure to the problem. Wouldn't believe it except I saw it before and after.
Does any one know anything further about this product?
Thanks,
Richard:) :) :)

Richard,
If it's the same product, I've used "Liquid Glass" for a long time. Their ads say it's not a silicone product, but is made of carbon. It provides a very durable hard shine that seems to stand up well to intense UV exposure here in southern AZ. I rewax every six months and it seems to still have a good coat at the end of six months.
I have no experience with it in salt or a very wet climate. I've used it on several different vehicles with and without clear coat. It's available at Autozone and Pep Boys for about $18.
A carnauba wax probably gives a deeper shine, silicone probably stands up better to salt and wet, but "Liquid Glass" works well for me. It does seem to have some cleaning ability, as your thread mentions.
