Hi,
After giving my 2 cents worth on a few diesel topics, I finally decided to submit a few jpegs of my '84 300TD Turbo (Blue Boy). It is a daily driver with just over 200K miles. Everything works (including the A/C), mileage avg. 23-25.5.

:)

and a well-kept example says alot about their owners. And "Blue Boy" is as nice as they come!

you've got a winner there, old geek! tell us about its history -- are you the original owner, what special enhancements have you made to her?

I feel a nomination to the 123 Character Club coming on...

Old geek;
Jack what a smuvf ride you have.
Considerring I am the Chairman of the Board and we both reside in Houston, me in Spring; could you via the phone help me post my 123.
Now you know that the Chairman knows all, sees all and tells all; well I want you to tell me how you did it so I being Chairman can be sure you did it right.
If you could, 281-821-3080

Ulrich,
About the lights - no they are standard US spec, but maybe this summer. Also see enclosed montage for jpeg of the lights & engine bay.

Spiderman,
No problem on calling you, evenings would work best for me. What would be a good time to reach you (say after 6:30 pm CST)?
P.S. also note the 4 photos in the enclosed file (it's under 100,000 bytes). I should be able to call in the next few days.
:)

G.G.
I am the 2nd owner -> aside from normal maintenace, I have mostly 'tinkered' with the ALDA, turbo waste gate, and replaced some of the electrical items (including a newer Becker am/fm/cd unit w/ remote) in the dash. Pervious owner took good care of Blue Boy and did a lot of his own repairs. I tend to follow the normal recommended maintenance schedules and cover it or keep in the garage. This forum (and the diesel forum) have been a great reference tool, so I will (when possible) try to return the help...

Previous MB owner experience with '62 220S and '68 250 turbo sedans; included complete interior restoration of seats & wood dash (by myself & wife), and cylinder head replacement (had to use a German language manual).

I just have to get some pictures of my ride posted

Spiderman: I'm going to the drug store to scan the photos you mailed me. Then I'll put them on the site.

What a sweet ride! And it's the same color as mine. I was also interested to learn about old Mercedes on eBay. Fun to browse through the listings there.

Welcome!

Grey ghost-
I too like china blue- I have two china blue TD's. My other wagon has the bundt rims. BTW- those white "fogs" are not fogs at all- they are Hella driving lights. MB fogs IMHO are quite useless no matter what the color, unless you drive in fog ALOT. I've found these driving lights are better at distance illumination on the nighttime 2 lane hwy's I use here in South Florida.

usually, I'm more concerned with function than form. That's why I've always owned wagons.

my concession to style is my yellow fog lights...I agree with you that their functionality is LOW, but I think they're very distinctive-looking and add to the vehicle's CHARACTER

I'm sure the Chairman agrees...

Character doesn't help me navigate two lane highways at night with my wife and three kids on board. Such esoteric thoughts are not the reason I own my three MB's- but "character" seems to be a major issue on this forum.

mtupower;
Most of us who log on to this forum have done so because of the CHARACTER of the W123 diesel.
Most of us use our Character for daily transportation.
Why you have as many as you do and don't believe in thier CHARACTER is only you know.
We formed this branch because the 123 has CHARACTER not discounting the other aspects of the last of the best.
You are the first to make such remarks; this is a fun, learn and enjoy spot.
There maybe other Mercedes Forums on the Internet that satisfy your needs.
All of your remarks are what make the 123 what it is.
Join in and ENJOY.
Or dr----------and ENJOY.
Until Then JOY

I'm not sure exactly what this "character" is. In response to the I prefer yellow fogs -I said my car performs better for the need I have- and besides- since that wagon is a 1980 domestic- which is powered by a OM617-912 (ie. non turbo 5 cylinder) it never had yellow fogs- it had white fogs. One might think that the car would be out of character sporting yellow fogs- like a fake rolex is out of character. True character is not flaunted or spoken of with a nose in the air. Yes I believe my w123's have character- and above all it's a humble character in my mind. Capable? yes. Confident? yes. I live in Palm Beach County- one of the top 3 overall charitable contribution counties per capita in the USA. I drive a 25 year old station wagon I bought for less than $2500. I wear a uniform to work as a mechanic. My fingernails are usually dirty. I am frequently at the yards here- as south florida usually has 20-40 MB's in good shape. I pull parts and pass them along to other MB owners for peanuts when they request them at other forums. I'm happy to be a member here, and hope I can pass along knowledge I have to others, and hope I can learn from those that are willing to share. :)

we're just a bunch of over-the-hill guys gassing off...we all have nothing but respect for other 123 drivers, no matter what the color of their fogs. We're all driving cars > 20 years old, and we're all might proud of our rides. We're all part of an insane brotherhood, reaching out via this mysterious "web" to others of like mind. The fact that you are a pro and choose to drive a 123 makes all of us feel more intelligent about our choice of transportation

Ride on, mtupower!

I'm new to this forum but a white '82 300TD(Big Girl) is what started our whole MB experience in 2000. Traded her for a gold '82 300TD(The Ragged Wagon) with 70,000 less miles and still wish I had kept Big Girl, too. Seem to me that the character of the driver is the more important factor--we are all united by our love for these cars whether we love them for form or function or both.
Juel who also has a '73 450SL and a '93 300D(DH's daily driver)

welcome to the forum realjuel. I also have a 82 TD. And truth be know it has a name- "two of the two", or "two" for short.. My 80 wagon is "one of the two", or just "one". My SD is simply "three". The next MB will be ....drumroll.... "four". Can't really say this qualifies as "named" however. It's just easier when talking with the wife to identify a car.
