Hallo!
I had a look at the forum before - I couldnīt find someone who has a 200D. Was this "small" MB unusual on the American market?
I bought the small one, because the German taxes for old diesel cars are extremely high. The smaller ones are a bit cheaper... Meanwhile I drive a car, which has become rather seldom. Most of them are in Poland now.Itīs a pity.
Greetings from Bavaria / Germany

Gruss Gott, Heidi
While my knowledge of MB diesels sold in USA is limited I
speak of the W-123 series auto's. I believe that the smallest
engine size offered with USA specifications was the W-123
240D. Those were offered through 1983. Now a 200D which,
I believe would have been a Euro(German)specification model
could probably have been shipped to the USA had one paid
expense of having it converted to USA specifications. That would
have been quite expensive and one could convert a larger
model for about the same expense. So I doubt if you would find very many, if any W123 200D auto's here in the USA.
From being in Germany throughout the 1980's and early 1990's
I noticed the 200D was mostly used as taxi's and they were
great and economical for that purpose.

Yes, there are a few here, but they're rather rare since they weren't brought in by the manufacturer.

Heidi;
I've had my W123133(300DT) for almost 20 years and in that time being aware of the diesel cars, I think about 5 years age I saw one flying over Houston Texas at a low altitude.

Yes, there were a number of 200Ds imported into the U.S.A. on the 110 chassis in the mid-'60's. A neighbor of mine had one.
In 1949 the OM636 1.7 liter flat head diesel was imported. This was followed by the 180D. The 190D was an overhead cam diesel, and again was followed by the 200D.
In 1968 the 220D was imported. This was the most popular diesel model (MBNA). The first 240Ds came in 1973 on the 115 chassis (and the 300Ds in 1974). It was not until 1976 that the 123 chassis diesels were imported and were considered as M-B's most successful diesels.

The OM636 was an overhead valve diesel engine featuring a crossflow design. The air intake manifold was on the left side while the exhaust manifold was on the right side. The first units of Model 170D displaced 1697 cc until May 1950 then 1767 cc until Sep 1955. The 180D also displaced 1767 cc until Aug 1961.
