My blower does not respond in either settings on the control panel. I checked all the fuses especially the 30 A outside the fuse box. What is next? Can I get to the blower motor easily. Is it under the passengers dash? Help very much appreciated.

Before you go digging out the blower moter, did you actually REMOVE the fusable link? They sometimes LOOK good but they have a fine crack in them.

Go back to the listing of threads in this 124 forum. There are several covering fan problems. Before digging the fan motor out of the car, check it for continuity with an ohm meter. The connector for the fan is above the master cylinder. If you try to reach back there to loosen the lines on the A/C expansion valve, it will be the thing that is trying to cut into the back of your hand. Probably has a piece of yellow plastic on it. Let us know if this helps and also some info on your car such as year and mileage.

Go to http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php3?t=54234&highlight=124+blower+removal for a description of how to do the job. It takes about 2 hours. The instructions will get you past the tricky stuff. I also printed up the instructions from the 124 CD. http://www.mercedessource.com/ supplies the kit along with instructions.
You can replace the brushes for around $30 but I opted for a new motor because the old one was squeaky. The motor is around $100 and the motor and fan is around $200. I replaced the motor and fan because I anticipated that the plastic fans would be brittle and would probably break when I tried to remove them from the shafts.

Can someone give me similar instructions for removing the fan from a 201? I have a sqeeky motor that every now and then hangs up blows the fuse. I got a new Bosch motor from Smitty's Auto Parts in Florida.

Robbie,

All I can tell you is that the setup looks similar on the IPB's. Mono wiper, similar fan cover, similar mounting box. Fastners for the cover on the box look like they may be different. Don't see any way to get at it other than digging straight down beginning with the wiper. Maybe one of our 201 aficianados has performed this trick and could share their experience.
