chrome exhust tips

Has anyone seen the exhust tips of a 2004 SL500? I was cleaning them tonight and noticed the inner side of the exhust tip has a bronze color. I thought the entire tip was chrome. Look at the red arrows in my picture.

Ah! This appears to be the German way to chrome. Chrome over brass. I knew they did this for vintage Mercedes but not the new ones. Cannot remember the name of the technique.

Maybe I am wrong, but I hope I am right.

What are you using to clean them? I use this....

I use Meguair's all metal restorer. It is a perfect line where the chrome and brass color meet. The line will form a circle.

Hi I believe the shell is anodized and then chromed,either way if you look you will see they are the same shape as the fog lights and also attribute to the special exhaust sound.joeym
