78 300d just tired?

Hello,
I have a 78 300d, 174K miles on it that just seems tired.
At 160K I had the top end entirely rebuilt. The valves were done
at 172k.

When I start it , it turns several times. like it has to build up pressure in the cylinders. I usually have to push the fuel pedal once when starting.

Should I pursue a compression test? If the compression is not good what would a bottom half rebuilt cost?

For the 78 300d, are there just 5 glow plugs? Or is one a temperature sensor? I was looking thru a performance products catalog & they had a glow plug temp senser.
They do not seem to be too expenisve. they were about$13 in the catalog.

Is about right?
