FYI, Mercedes Dealers can and do charge whatever the traffic will bear for parts. The internet is causing some of them to reconsider their policies. Daimler Chrysler operates a web site that will provide retail pricing (in Euros) and availability of just about any part. The URL is:

http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/Projects/wi/cda/etpl?ETNR=A0109978947&from=query&etpl_lang=01

Exchange rate for the Euro can be found on just about any financial site.

Now that you are armed with the "what it should sell for" information, call your dealer and ask. If you don't like his price, call some dealers in other states. Eventually, you will find one or more who will give you a better price, including shipping.

When the Mercedes Benz Classic Center opens in Irvine, CA, you will be able to buy directly from them at the real price. If your dealer matches that price, you can buy from him and save the shipping.

Names of motivated dealers can be found in Hemmings Motor News and various car magazines, including the STAR.

Thanks for the web link. I'm looking for a rebuilt transfer case for a 1993 300TE 4 Matic.

Guys - BTW Tom Hanson will be involved with parts sales at the Classic Center in Irvine. It was great to meet Tom at StarTech last week.

Robby,

In addition to the dealer, you might try:

European Exchange
240 Lodi St
Hackensack, NJ 07601
201/489-7770

or

Lorys Transmissions in Miami at:
www.transmissionparts.com (for their phone number)

I just replaced the front springs on my 89 300 TE and they were 45 euro each. The price on line was about $70. When you convert the money and add the tax the price is the same. It seems the price is figured by the exchange rate. I think without the tax they are about 10% higher in the US. Always try to get a discount. It never hurts to ask.

Just to clarify, my original post on pricing only concerns genuine Mercedes Benz parts purchased from authorized Mercedes Benz dealers. It does not include aftermarket, independent, McParts or other sources who may have better or worse deals.

badali makes a very good point. Always ask for a discount. Many times the counter person will ask why. Something along the lines of "my Mercedes enthusiast friends buy here, we enjoy the convenience of not having to wait for internet delivery and we prefer to spend our money locally." If this fails to move them, you may want to consider other options.

I have been pleased and overwhelmingly satisfied with AutoHausaz.com...i think that's it...

you order on line they ship same day.... however it does take 4-5 days to arrive...shipping is free on orders above 50 dollars....

The dealer a) charges too much b) has gotten a couple of my simple orders wrong c) still takes a day or two for most parts
