Climate Control 1991 300E 4-Matic

I need a new climate control unit. Mine is stamped 124 830 3185. I saw one on e-bay with the number 124 830 2185. Looking on the internet I find a pile of vendors selling a Programma unit with the number 124 830 3285. Can anyone tell me how significant the last four numbers are? Mine is a fahrenheit unit.

Mercedes made the part numbers different because the parts are different. In the case of your unit, if the vendor says it will work it very likely will. For an explanation of part numbers and why your case may work see:

Thanks for the response. The link was helpful. I called the dealer for the latest part number which was different from the rest. The parts guy confirmed the part has changed but that the other numbers would still work.
