Hi folks,
I recently acquired a 1953 300 (W186) without transmission. I presume other models from that era had the same tranny.
Does anyone know what models would carry the same tranny as my vehicle?
I located a 1959 219 with the 4 speed tranny and wonder whether it could fit my car.
Cheers,

You've got to join the adenauer group if you haven't already. There is a huge amount of good info there. Go to

Salvage yards, like TriStar Pete in Tempe, AZ, seem to often have a good idea of what parts interchange. I would think somehow dealer records would go back that far - if you can find someone to invest the time.

It has to be a 300 transmission.
Hello,
Tom is correct. The gearing for different models is different. The bell housings for different series engines is different. Some parts will be the same such as the gear box casting itself or the bearings or possibly some gears. The driveshaft flange may also be different as well as the rear cover and top shifter cover. You at least need a unit fitted to a early 1960's or late 1950's 300 series engine to stand a chance!
