Mercedes genuine Sunroof Lube

The stuff has the consistency of Vaseline. Would plain old Vaseline do as well?

I don't think so. You can purchase smaller amounts of the Mercedes paste lubricant on Ebay instead of buying that huge can from the dealership.

George Murphy sells it in a small container for a couple of bucks. He advertises in the STAR every month as Performance Analysis.

Hey, now this thread raises a question for me. My MB has a sunroof, but I know nothing about lubing it, when it needs it, and so forth. Would somebody fill me in?

In the owner's manual, the lubrication interval for the sunroof will be specified. The procedure would have been done during the routine service.
