Happens all the time when the linkage gets out of adjustment.

Loosen the release so that the prong at the back of the top is loose. It won't clear the release latch though or you wouldn't have the problem.

Pull the top up as far as it will go, and with a screwdriver or similar, carefully enter the hole under the prong, find the catch, press it in and release the top. Enter at the passenger's side of the hole. Be sure to adjust the linkage at the driver's outboard side to prevent it from happening again.

Someone once told me that if the hardtop is stuck like that, you can also just rotate the top 90 degrees. Never tried that, since it takes two people at least.
