Hey there. I'm just starting to get "into" my 1974 450SL that I won at the Hershey Auction last year.

Was advertised as having new convertible top and new paint - true. I've got the top going up and down perfectly BUT what I first thought was dust on one side of the top is unfortunately overspray from when the car was repainted. The paint is not solid but more like a "dusting," but it definitely shows.

Any suggestions before I start experimenting with different chemicals (e.g. mineral spirits) to take the paint off without damaging the new top?

There are a few pics of her on my web site at www.twinturbo.info. Thanks.

I think before I'd use any chemicals I'd try a simple "suede brush"... you know, those brushes mounted on a wooden handle that have very fine brass "bristles"...??

I'd very gently brush the (dry) area where the overspray is, to see if that loosens and removes the overspray. If that doesn't work, I think I'd try using a wet ragtop cleaner solution with a stiff brush.... if that didn't work, I'd find a ragtop shop and ask for a "professional" suggestion!!
