I got the original invoice for my MB and on that documentation it shows the following paint number and description. 735 astral silver. Is the still the color that MB uses in its models? I would like to repaint this car, as there are some scratches, and dents, which I have pulled out, but need a source for this color. Supposedly this is the classic color for this year and model. I have been shopping at different autoparts stores to see if they can order this color, or make it up. NAPA may be able to mix this color... But I was wondering, if this color might still be in use for the newer models... ;)

Call the Parts Department at your local MB dealer and see if they can order astral silver (735) paint for you. I recommend only using paint from a dealer/MB parts source.

Most all body shops mix all of their paint "in house" now instead of ordering from parts store. They will probably be able to find the original color and mix it. We had a silver 78 450SL when I was a kid, now I have a silver E420,(which had to be repainted) very little difference. The paint quality is so much better than it used to be. Let a reputable body shop do the job and you should be satisfied. Cut no corners or you will regret it.

Bergie, let me amend my earlier post ... go to a bodyshop that regularly paints Mercedes cars. They will use quality paint and will be able to match the original color. If you intend to repaint the entire car they will mix the original color exactly. If you only want to repaint certain areas they have a scanner that will formulate the color to match your faded paint. As I'm sure you're well aware it takes an experienced painter with a state-of-the-art paint booth to produce a high quality finish after performing all the necessary prep work ... removing glass, lights, trim, etc.
