Can anybody suggest how to better and safer clean up the engine compartment, including the engine, to a concourse standard?

Thank you.

If you really want to do it to concours standards, be prepared to remove the engine and spend a bunch of money. What model car??

Thank you Tom for your answer. The car is a 1985 380SL, low 75,000 miles, in really good shape, but of course I will never spend what you say for the councourse only purpose.

But since in Septmber I will need to replace the timing chain I might take advantage of this opportunity.

Thanks again.

Your car already has a dual row chain, so engine removal won't be neccessary for that job. Many of the components in the engine compartment can be replated and some things will need to be replaced to bring it up to concours standards (concourse is a thing at an airport.. drop the "e"). It's tough to get at so much of the areas to be detailed with the engine in the car. If you intend to drive it alot, I wouldn't go to too much trouble. What do you have in mind?

Thank you guys for the suggestions.
No Tom, I'm not traying to get in the concours business, the only thing I look for is keeping my car, that I love, in good nice looking condition. I do not loke those cars kept like in a museum and brought out of the garage only for an exibition. I enjoy driving my convertible any time I get the chance, but I do not take my car down to the office every day.
On average I drive that car about a couple thousand miles every year. Don't forget that I'm living in Minnesota.
Mark, I can't access that page but I'll keep trying.

Thanks a bunch.
