Black Paint Selection

:cool: I want to order new, BLACK E-Class. Question is: What black is best for looks & ease of care? Choices are flat black or Obsidian (metallic) black. What do you think?

Black paint and "ease of care" are contradictory statements.

I've known countless owners of black cars who become slaves to their car surfaces, worried about water spots, polishing swirls and other perceived "flaws" that are 1000x more visible on a black car than other colors. Oh well, the things they do for fashion . . . :rolleyes:

Marv, I recommend getting "white" ... easiest color to maintain by far. You'll be a slave keeping "black" looking clean.

That may be so, Fred, but black is more distinguished-looking and fashionable. Always has been. Maintaining it requires extra work, that's true, but there's nothing like a really shiny black car.

I agree with MTI's comment, which is why I chickened out for a 753 Tectite Grey Metallic, which is a dark gray finish that has some of black's flavor but is not as needy. My wife insists on 040 Black for her car, so I deal with it best as I can.

On the subject of color, there's a mystery I haven't been able to solve: Why do some models look so good in a color that other models don't? Sizes, shapes and proportions aren't all that different. So why?

The SLK is probably the only current Mercedes-Benz model that can get away with the bright yellow. ;)
